Pool Gates – Tension Based Gates vs Stand-Alone Framed Gate

One of the most frequently asked questions is about our pool gates.  Customers want to know which swimming pool gate to install and why.

We sell 2 types of pool gates at Summerfield Pool Safety, a tension-based gate and a stand-alone framed gate. There are pros and cons to each type.

TENSION GATE

The tension-based pool gate uses tension to stay in place.  It is attached to rest of the pool fencing and when that is pulled taut the gate stays in place.  The downfall to this type of gate is that over a long period of time, due to the elements, the tautness of the pool fence will begin to lapse.  The upside to this type of gate is that there is no threshold to step over when entering the pool area.

Our second type of pool gate is a framed gate.  This gate stands alone from the rest of the fencing and will never loose tautness because it is not tension based.  The only con to this swimming pool gate is that there is a threshold that you have to step over when entering the pool area.  We are the only company that offers this type of framed gate.
